Miguel Vasquez, a descendant of dairy farm workers, immigrated from Mexico in 1977 and became a United States citizen in 1998.
As a youth, the experience of being self-supporting, gave him an insight onto the world of poverty. That would influence his future goals for himself, his family, and his community.
After a long career in the technology and banking industries Miguel choose to use his wealth of resources to give back to the community. Today, Miguel is the Chairman and CEO for the California Foundation Fund (CAFF), an non-profit corporation who’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty for the State’s low-income population. At CAFF, Miguel leads a team of executives in educational management, behavioral science, research and financial industries.
As founder of the California Foundation Fund, Miguel has been recognized as a community organizer who has led the modernization movement of financial education. Miguel is the author of the youth entrepreneurship curriculum and financial literacy instructor certification curriculum taught at Alliant International University. In addition to his humanitarian work at CAFF, Miguel most recently moderated for Mexico’s Secretary of the Exterior international financial literacy conference in Mexico City. This is an international committee that meets to assist Mexicans in the United States. Miguel is currently the resource chair at the San Diego Financial Education Week Task Force where he provided support in creating, funding and coordinating the International Youth Entrepreneurship Competition. Miguel is a former board member to InterAmerican College Scholarship Foundation where he is supporting the establishment of a $2 million dollar educational endowment for Latino leaders. Miguel is co-chair of the California Financial Curriculum Council and is a member of the President’s Lecture Series at Alliant International University.
Miguel was vice-chairman at the San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, board member at La Cuna foster care, board member at La Raza Lawyers Scholarship Foundation and committee member of the KPBS Annual Hispanic Heritage Heroes Awards.
